Jerusalem Penthouse Serving as a Pied-a-terre

Perched on the three highest floors of a building, this 750 sqm magnificent penthouse serves as a pied-a-terre during extended holidays in Jerusalem, Israel. The client requested subdued traditional classic elegance using products and materials of the highest level.

We were commissioned to undertake this full-blown remodeling project where only the ceiling and floors remained and were a given. We were given 12 months to complete the project and were faced with many challenges since the building was located in a densely populated area with enormously difficult access for trucks to deliver and cranes to be set up.

This is the result!

The private lobby, with in-laid Spanish marble, is accessed via a brass-clad elevator. Lavish glass and brass pocket doors elegantly lead into the living room.

Entering the foyer area a grand and majestic black wrought-iron staircase with a magnificent bespoke Swarovski cascading chandelier is observed. The flooring is all marble.

The stately living room in timeless traditional European décor exemplifies comfortable elegance. High end fabrics were chosen for the upholstery, including velvet and silk. The floor to ceiling windows are dressed in regal drapes, while a Nain Persian beige area rug delivers warmth and definition to the space.

Built in Italian bespoke cabinetry with glass doors, half storage and half glass show-case fine china and other accessories.

The fireplace in a timeless design is carved from limestone. The ornamental gold-leaf gilded ceiling provides added grandeur. Other touches of gold and silver enhance the natural sophistication of this traditional décor.

Like the coffee table the dining table is high-gloss Macassar ebony wood. The magnificent chandeliers complete the look.

The Italian kitchen is fitted with state-of-the-art appliances and exquisitely detailed cabinets.

The custom-built home library is in rich walnut wood. The traditional desk and chair alongside the art, sofa and throw-pillows, with the refined custom-built-in bar unit, provide character and style.

A refined ambience in the bedrooms is achieved by combining soft colors and champagne-colored furnishings. Multiple layered curtains, upholstered headboards, wallpaper and decoratively painted walls contribute to a soothing and warm ambience.

Since the penthouse accommodates many guests throughout the year it includes nothing less than 15 bedrooms. In order to provide interest each bedroom has been planned and designed in a different color scheme with a slight different flavor. Here are examples of 3 such bedrooms.

Since we tried to promote a sense of calmness, we went with a very subtle and soothing color palette.

The arm chairs and satin light blue scatter pillows offer a soft and subdued presence. They act as accent pieces that are not only functional but beautiful and inviting.

This bedroom in touches of light yellow is a favorite. The gorgeous ceiling lamp and the upholstered tufted headboard are the details that give the room its ‘wow’ factor.

Bunk beds are a wonderful way to save space for kids who share a room. In this instance the clients asked for bunk beds, not to save space, but to create a fun environment for visiting grandchildren.

Bunk beds can be sleek and functional too, as is the case here.

This is really the cherry on the top; a luxurious and pampering bathroom adjoining the master bedroom.

The marble flooring and cladding is a sight to behold while a stand-alone curved bathtub is indispensable in any luxurious bathroom.

The chandelier is breathtaking, providing both opulence and drama to the space.

To conclude — this project was a huge undertaking. Since we had a generous budget the clients had great expectations for the final outcome. I am thrilled to say that we did not disappoint them!
