Tel Aviv Penthouse by Annette Frommer

This penthouse is one of my favorite projects, due to its many challenges. It was planned and designed for a young family with children and is located in the exciting and bustling city of Tel Aviv.

The unconventional layout of the floor plan included many angles, and thus posed a real challenge. I had to find a way to smoothly and seemingly effortlessly create a space that is both functional and chic — and that was not easy at all.

As you can see the space here is angular. Being the optimist that I am, I decided that this can actually work to my advantage and help me to provide energy and life, as well as style and sophistication, to the space.

For starters, I opted for two sofas, customized so they could be placed in such a way as to provide a quasi-curved appearance. By adding two armchairs to the side, I created a partition between the sitting area and the dining room, that nevertheless retains the open concept of the floor plan.

The floor to ceiling windows, covered with sheer curtains, offer a peek at the iconic city beyond. The grey marble floors with the light beige leather sofas, accented with graceful yellow throw pillows and two round coffee tables, deliver contemporary chic. Note how the area rug defines the sitting area with ease and flair.

Bespoke carpentry elegantly conceals an amazing state-of-the-art bar, great for entertaining. This cabinet is not only stunningly fine-looking when closed; it is an eye-catching decorative focal point also when opened.

The brass, glass and gold elements blend and provide a flawless finish to the living area. Remember, “obsessively” focusing on details will ensure that you take you design to the maximum (and beyond).

The modern white Boffi kitchen is bright, fresh and exudes minimalistic elegance. The breakfast table is placed adjacent to the large windows that overlook greater Tel Aviv. The pop of color in the chairs provides refined sophistication.

See that angular staircase outside the kitchen? Today, the outdoors part of the home possesses so much importance. This angular staircase leads to a rooftop deck and terrace, with a bar.

Here, I adopted the angular layout for both function and aesthetic. The deck and wooden bar offer a woodsy forest feel that is in great contrast to the city below. I played with different plants, trees, colors and scents to provide calm and a sense of wellbeing.

Although many love the view of the beach, there are those who opt for the view of life in the city, as was the case with this family. I therefore placed the bed in the master bedroom straight across from the tall floor-to-ceiling windows. I furnished the bedroom to a minimum so that all the attention would be directed towards the beautiful view, day or night.

As for the bathroom, marble is always the best choice for bathroom décor, if you are looking for that high-end and upmarket look. This type of bathroom is classic and will stand the test of time.

The marble on the floor and on the walls is stunningly impactful, while the bespoke wooden cabinetry is striking. Together, these two elements (all over marble and the abundance of storage space) create a truly sensational dream bathroom.
